Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 4 June '13
i say it is HIGH TIME that Mr. PAUL WELLER and EC were on the same stage once again. when was the last...nearly 30 years ago?? the TWO BEST SONGWRITERS to have begun in the 1970's Brit Music Scene; HANDS DOWN!!! Absolutely and then we can look forward to the collabrative record that they are due to...

Re: 'a newspaper picture..A woman was kissing a child'
Clearly the event that was hoped for has actually materialised and as such the day of reckoning for Elvis has also arrived. By that I mean his lyrics will be referenced plenty and his opinion sought. Last night on an Australian political panel programme it was mentioned immediatetly by the (well inf...

Re: Elvis Costello Countdown
Shipbuilding is a gem of a composition, no argument here either. Its a song I too have particularly enjoyed live. I watched " A Case For Song"' DVD recently and rediscoverd an excellent perfomance/arrangement with Clive Langer joining the ensemble.(fact is I had forgotten how good the whol...

Re: Elvis Costello Countdown
Still curious which of the Big Three ends up Number 1. Putting my bet on Man Out Of Time. Shipbuilding .. Easy :) Na - has to be I Want You of course !! :? Reasons too numerous to state apart from the unique structure of the song which for me is one of the traits that defines EC from his peers.

Re: Elvis Costello Countdown
A worthy albeit "safe"choice. With just 4 places remaining I assume the big hitters of I Want You, Man Out of Time, Shipbuilding and possibly Radio Radio are still to feature. Therefore I cant see any more of the equally deserving candidates referenced in this thread from National Ransom o...

Re: Vote for the best top 20 Elvis songs!
I have to admit I am quite useless at determing such lists; either for the remaining tracks or even my all time EC list and am very envious of those who can! However when I hear a certain song I am able to say that it is one of my "favourites". For example Riot Act recently listened to is ...

Re: Elvis Costello Countdown
I'd class National Ransom as pretty shocking! Would be way down my list for that album. Maybe round 150! Heard No Action being played on the radio earlier, on vinyl, no less, and thought 'how come it wasn't top 20?' God it sounded good. I loved your description, e.g. of P Thomas being so fired up a...

Re: Elvis Costello Countdown
A pleasing quartet. Interesting to see All These Strangers there. I'd have several others from NR over it, but you make a good case. This is the fun of the list: what would we all pick. Having just reviewed 100-37, I'm thinking there are easily well over 36 sheer classics you haven't listed thus fa...

Re: Elvis Costello and The Imposters play McLaren, Jan 27 '1
Another great account - thanks! What kind of merchendise is selling at these shows, t-shirt with tour dates etc.? You are welcome. At A Day On The Green the merchandise was quite extensive. The Elvis specific stuff was as follows (basically 3 T shirts.)The My Aim Is True pose ( predominatly red ) o...

Re: Elvis Costello and The Imposters play McLaren, Jan 27 '1
Expectation beforehand was low due to my understanding of the likely constraints (reduced timeslot) and output (probably a greatest hits package) of this kind of show. Plus how could it better the Melboune Spinning Song Book show of two nights before. HOWEVER despite being all of the above I was ver...

Re: Elvis Costello and The Imposters play Melbourne, Jan 25
Also there was no EC solo segement hence the only genuine dissapointment of the night was no Jimmy or Josephine etc. Can't have it all I suppose plus I think EC was very conscious of time as he appered to be checking back stage a few times ( how long have we got remaining ??)

Re: Elvis Costello and The Imposters play Melbourne, Jan 25
Apologies for the delayed response, been a very busy weekend of Elvis indulgence. Now I have caught my breath here are a few random thoughts on the Melbourne show. The McLaren Vale concert will follow under that thread. This was my first Spinning Song Book experience and as such I had high expectati...

Hmmm - maybe he was just chatting about The Kinks' 'Australia' because he's there at the moment. But here it is - I'd never heard of it before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iUhwYWSmnw Nx Or maybe he is planning to give this song an outing during the Australian shows to get the locals onside ? Re: 2013 Australian Tour

Yep we will be there following hot on the heels of our Melbourne excursion. But we have had to go "cheap" accordingly due to family budget constraints (bog standard ground admission tickets only). However it is only 30 minutes down the road for us and the Winery and location are beautiful....

Re: New Year's Resolutions for EC
I am not particularly fussed about the ultimate format of any new compositions but what we need are new songs ! Post Spinning song book tours ( which are just about past their sell by date ?) will need such material to spice up any "normal" concerts he subsequently does. The majority of hi...

Thanks for posting this SpiritintheSky. I grew up listening to Peel on Radio 1. I remember when the first Sex Pistols album came out and he played in all straight through. Usually every other record in the show was something unlistenable, but the bits in between made up for it. I remember still whe...
