Re: Recently viewed films

I too really enjoyed "Everything Must Go." Ferrell seems to have some actual acting chops, which viewers would have first perceived in "Stranger Than Fiction," which I also thought was a good film. I hope Ferrell takes on more roles along those lines because he's very good. I don...

Re: Your LEAST favorite Elvis song and why

To me, least favorite doesn't necessarily mean "bad" or any derivative of it.

That said, I just about always skip Five Gears in Reverse. Song just doesn't do it for me.

Re: ba statistical analysis of first one hundred EC appearan

Great stuff, bronxapostle. An immensely enjoyable read.

It says something for the man's catalog that the most popular song was only played at 63 percent of the gigs you've seen, and it's a pretty good sample size spread out over a lot of years and different tours.

Nice song. Love Barbara Acklin.

"Long Line of Cars" by Cake. One of my favorite tracks, or maybe even my favorite, on Comfort Eagle.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

New to me. Fun concept. Avett Brothers: abQRt6p8T7g Excellent, as always. They were in my hometown last week and I had to work. Shame. It is an arena tour, though, and that doesn't seem like a proper place to see a band like that. So whatever. Here's a Tiny Desk concert published this time last yea...

Re: Promo videos a half-step higher than album cuts?

Good grief! You're right! Maybe it's something to do with the telecine of the original videos? Film is 24 frames per second, video is (possibly) 25 (can't remember) - when they transferred the original film to video for the mastering, perhaps they forgot to flick a switch, but nobody noticed? But I...

Promo videos a half-step higher than album cuts?

Something that has always perplexed me, and something to which I've yet to find a satisfactory answer: For all the former utility and current novelty of Costello's collection of promo videos, a handful stick out to me as being especially odd. They are: Peace, Love and Understanding Oliver's Army I C...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Great comments re Glenn K. So University of Kentucky, right? Would be very keen to hear any details re the minutiae of your percussionist friend's observations. All details thirstily received! One song that blew me away on Saturday was Art of Almost. There was a visceral intensity not present on th...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

...and some Glenn Kotche shots, though nothing like enough to my mind. Notice he plays with one drum stick with a curious thick white thing on the bottom end of it. I've noticed this before. Don't know if it's so he can reverse it and use as a cymbal beater, or is to give a special weight to it? Ne...

Re: Recently viewed films

Tree of Life. Exquisite. Heart wrenching and visually stunning. Can't recommend it enough. I've been meaning to see that one. I missed it in theaters. Favorite film I've seen recently has been "Drive." Tremendous script with very, very compelling characters. I'd be disappointed if Ryan Go...

My girlfriend showed it to her kindergarten class. Said the kids loved it and the teachers loved it even more.

Settin' the kids up early.

Re: Favorite Albums Of 2011 (So Far)

Thing is, though, the ones that I really love are where Nels Cline takes it to another level, and the whole band with him, so my two favourite examples are 'At Least That's What You Said' and 'Impossible Germany', where already great songs are made completely stellar. I saw Wilco in Nashville at th...

I also would quite like to hear I Stand Accused. That would make for a great song in the middle of a set.

Re: top ten songs that should be on next REVOLVER leg!

Don't know about a top 10 but a few Attractions-days tunes I'd like to hear: King Horse Human Touch Different Finger Let Them All Talk. I would just like to hear this one live at some point...probably will never happen without a horn section, I'm assuming. I've always had a soft spot for this song. ...

When I clicked on the thread, I wondered if it would be about Josh Freese. I think it's great. Some of these are just absurdly funny. "Make Josh's new record for him." "Go get matching outfits from Tommy Bahama and make everybody very sad." "Signed photo (can't promise what ...

The Baseball Project - Volume Two: High and Inside Glad someone else is digging The Baseball Project. Great stuff. The new Wilco album, The Whole Love , is just exquisite. I fear speaking any further about it because nothing I say will do it proper justice. I've become a big fan of Mayer Hawthorne....

Re: Elvis and the Imposters, Indianapolis, IN, Sep. 26, 2011

Howdy, folks. I'm new around here, and I realize I'm quite late to this discussion about this particular gig but I was there so I figure this is as good a place as any to start. This was the first time I've ever seen Elvis in concert—I've been a fan for five or six years now but it's just never work...
