On the plus side, though, no one in his right mind would pay some random person for a "second hand mp3." Probably isn't going to be much of an issue in the long run.

Do you think there's a chance that she sabotaged the tour just to smite you after you and her daughter parted ways?

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
Are you still in regular contact with your ex-girlfriend, or did her mother cross all boundaries of estrangement specifically to ask you about this?
If so, it sounds like the 60 year-old mother might be trying to "reconnect," if you know what I mean.

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
I took great pleasure in downloading Van the Man and the Chieftains' magnificent Irish Heartbeat for nothing. It was on Amazon for like £48, and pretty much nowhere else. So I stole it! Then again, I bought it on cassette when it came out. I'm innocent! Why on earth is such a great record not readi...

Natasha, it seems you're using your own idealistic, hippie-ish ideas as to how much an artist should be willing to share as grounds for defending why you think it's okay to simply take from the artist when he or she doesn't comply. Your argument is tantamount, to a lesser degree, to taking a rape vi...

He adds his voice to them, which is enough for me. Sometimes that familiar voice is enough to give a song meaning it wouldn't otherwise have, even if it doesn't "better" the original necessarily.

And I agree with Walter Matthau that most of Kojak Variety could have stayed in a vault. I'd have been fine with that, so long as the vault in question was located in my house and I was given a key to access it at will. I mean, it's minor, but there's a lot of fun stuff on there--though I think the...

I had a similar thought once, but instead of covering "Impatience" or "A Voice in the Dark" it was "his mouth with duct tape."Neil. wrote:I think Michael Buble would be the man to cover Impatience and A Voice In The Dark

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
Some of the alternate takes etc. in the Miles sets are a little extraneous. But other tracks--like "Water on the Pond" and "Circle in the Round," from the 65-68 set, for example--are crucial to Miles's story (the former was the first Davis track to employ an electric instrument, ...

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
One thing I wish Columbia had done differently with the Davis reissues is make more of the material from the "complete sessions" box sets available as bonus materials on the albums themselves. Some of the boxes--the Cellar Door and Plugged Nickel sets, for example--make sense to have been ...

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
I didn't mean to suggest EC's was the only one--just that I think that even others, no matter how great, fail to reach the gold standard set by those Rhino reissues. Essentially, it was two discs for the price of one, with the bonus disc featuring oftentimes more material than the album itself, much...

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
The Hip-O reissue series was bungled from the start. If you wanted to try a "themed" Costello compilation, for instance, why start with "Rock & Roll" when that could describe the bulk of ANY of the previous "greatest hits" collections he's put out over the years. A...

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
Weren't there going to be other editions with ballads and such? Like everything else, my guess is that they just weren't selling. It seems there have been a number of reissue programs in the last few years that have just stopped dead in their tracks--the last Van Morrison remaster series is an exam...

So how many on this forum are buying this, over priced or not? I still have it on pre order from Amazon, had this been released at any other time of the year I would have skipped it. I am due a year end bonus and have mentally adjusted that bonus by $250 lees than it should be, that is the only way...

Re: Starting To Come to Me Interpretation
A buddy of mine recently asked me what I thought this song was about. My short answer was that I considered it a fairly typical late period EC song relying on acting/theatre metaphors to call out the target of the song for being a general phony. The narrator is beginning to realize that his general...

A welcome to you as well- this will be quite the catalog to roam through. Would follow Mr. Davis's suggestion- start with the records you currently own. I am most hesitant to recommend specific songs as what I like will not always be what you might like. It would appear you have already made a soli...
