English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello has probably some of his label chiefs in quite the huff – after urging fans NOT to buy his brand new boxset.
The 57 year-old’s brand new boxset comes with CDs, DVDs, vinyl and even a book, and has been limited to 1500 copies. You’d expect Costello to be tripping himself over to give you advice – but he’s instead admitted that the box-set was far too expensive, and urged fans to steer clear. And, with the boxset weighing in at an expensive $213, who can blame him?
Costello told fans in a blog post on his site, titled 'Steal This Record', "All our attempts to have this number revised have been fruitless but rather than detain you with tedious arguments about morality, panache and bookkeeping - when there are really bigger fish to filet these days - we are taking the following unusual step."
"If you should really want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we can wholeheartedly recommend Ambassador Of Jazz - a cute little imitation suitcase, covered in travel stickers and embossed with the name 'Satchmo' but more importantly containing TEN re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived - Louis Armstrong."
"The box should be available for under one hundred and fifty American dollars and includes a number of other tricks and treats. Frankly, the music is vastly superior."
Elvis Costello goes on UK tour starting in May next year. If you want to grab yourself a pair of tickets, check the dates and details below.
